The Energypark is a national research-, develpment-
and demonstration facility for renewable energy. It includes hydro
power, wind power, solar cells, wave power, electrolyser for production
of hydrogen, fuel cells, biomass cells, heat
pumps, solar thermal systems and ground wells.
With two windmills, an electrolyser unit and a fuel
cell the island of Utsira shall become independent of the mainland
power grid. Due to long periods of wind most of the power consume
can be covered by the windmills, but in quiet periods the fuel cell
is fed with hydrogen (produced by the electrolyser) to produce power.
Around 30 fuel cell buses are operating in 9 European
cities to demonstrate their feasibility in public transport. The
complete infrastructure with different concepts for hydrogen filling
stations are included in the project.

HyNor is an industry initiative to demonstrate the
implementation of hydrogen energy infrastructure between Oslo and
Stavanger. The project covers all means of transportation like
buses, taxis and private cars as well as different hydrogen filling

hydrogen filling station in

. It will offer hydrogen at both 350 and 700 bars pressure, in
addition to HCNG (8 % hydrogen mixed into CNG) and CNG (compressed
natural gas). The fuelling station is located at Statoil’s
existing petrol station.
In the next phase of the project the focus will be on
establishing hydrogen production from natural gas, with CO2
PowerCell was established
in 2005 as a joint venture between AB Volvo and Statoil ASA for
development and commercialisation of APU (auxiliary power units) for
heavy duty truck applications. The APU will almost eliminate the NOx
and the VOC emissions at idle operation and reduce the CO2
emissions considerably. The technology is based on patented fuel
cell technology and diesel reformer technology.
